BLIND (SHORT FILM) OVERVIEW

Image
BLIND (SHORT FILM) OVERVIEW Welcome back! In todays blog post I am going to be talking about BLIND, the short film I directed in my third year of university. (a YouTube link to BLIND is below) I have been sitting on BLIND for a few years, but I just feel it is the right time to share this movie with the world.   BLIND was the first movie I directed, admittedly the film is not as sleek as I would like it to be, however I believe there is a compelling story, and the two leads of my film,   Aaron and Jess grip you from the first frame to the last. BLIND is a modern retelling of Bonnie and Clyde set in Twickenham, South West London. The Original script was written by a wonderful writer: Sharmarni, and shot beautifully by Ernest, my producing partner (Paul) and I took the script and changed aspects of it. We shot BLIND over two days, and two weeks after principal photography we did an additional half day of filming.   As I re-watch BLIND, in hindsight there are a number of changes I would

How I got a voice over agent - Overview

How I got a voice over agent - Overview This blog post is an overview of the: How I got a voice over agent video that I uploaded to my YouTube channel, a link to the video is below. I have also put a link to the audio version below. As an actor if you want to get work there are a number of things you need, a CV (resume) listing your credits, a showreel, and if you want to do any form of voice work you need to have a voice reel, this is a short compilation of voice clips, that is used to sell yourself to agents, producers and casting directors. In the video I talked about the process of finding a voice reel company, and how I prepared for the recording session, I talked about what happened during the recording session, I also talked about what happened after the recording session, in regards to receiving my voice files.   In my video I name the voice reel company I used, feel free to use them, however I would like to point out there are other voice reel companies out there, two things

Creativity can come from outside sources

This is a lesson I first learnt in my third year of undergrad.   At the time I was studying media (communications for American readers) and I was in a Visual production lecture series. During the lecture series we had a guest lecturer called john, he has his own production company, so we were literally getting taught by a top professional in the industry. John told us a story. He said that when he was in university that he used to intern at a production company, and everyday the interns had to read through all the newspapers and magazines available to them, and if there were any articles that caught the interns interest, they would cut the article out and put it in a pile. once all the interns had finished, they would go t

WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES ANOTHER ONE OPENS

Image
WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES ANOTHER ONE OPENS ( Photo by   Craig Whitehead on   Unsplash ) Let me set the stage for you, it is early November 2020 and in a few days I am going to shoot a short film with some friends from work, the script has been finalised, the director has all his shots planned, a venue has been identified, and we had a chef who was looking forward to cooking for the cast and crew! Then the news breaks, the Prime Minister has called for another lockdown, and as a result filming has been postponed indefinitely, as a whole the cast and crew were disappointed, because we all believed in the project and were looking forward to bring it to life. It is fair to say I was particularly disappointed, I took it pretty hard. I was at home watching videos on YouTube, and suddenly inspiration struck me, and I had the basis for three short films, I wrought the first film, started the second, and had an idea for the third, I haven't started the script for this yet. These short scripts

How To Leave Your Agent

Image
How To Leave Your Acting Agent ( Photo by   Charles Forerunner on   Unsplash ) The thing we never talk about is how to leave an agent, the thing most actors are concerned with is how to get an agent, for example lets look at showcase season at drama school, in the weeks leading up to showcase nothing else matters, doing well in the showcase and signing with an agent is all consuming. However during this time we don't stop to think about what happens when the actor and agent relationship breaks down. In this blog the advice I am giving is based off my own personal experiences, and my hope is that this blog will be able to help someone out, because when I left my previous agent I didn't really have anyone I could talk to, I just followed my gut, and you know what it worked out for me. How did I know it was time to leave my agent? First of all, it was incredibly hard for me to get a hold of my agent once I had signed, it took a really long time for my agent to respond to message

Making a YouTube video or a Podcast is just like performing

Making a YouTube video or a Podcast is just like performing ( Photo by   Soundtrap on   Unsplash ) Making a YouTube video or a Podcast is just like performing, and in this blog I am going lay out how all three are essentially one in the same. It is important to note when starting out no one sets off wanting to make a bad YouTube video, Podcast, or put on a bad performance. In this example, in all three instances the thing that was off, was the execution of the final product, if you get your execution right then the YouTube video, Podcast, or Performance will work because it will resonate with the audience. Just like performing, when one makes a YouTube video or Podcast, a lot of preparation goes into it. In Performing one will do in-depth research on their role, create a character and learn their lines, and in the YouTube and Podcast space the same rule of thumb applies. One will do research on whatever topic they are going to talk on, this includes wider reading around the topic, or

My thoughts on Online Theatre

Image
My thoughts on Online Theatre ( Photo by   Felix Mooneeram on   Unsplash ) Welcome back to my blog! In this instalment I will be discussing my thoughts on Online Theatre. Online Theatre has been around for a few years, however due to the pandemic Online Theatre has become popular due to Theatres being closed , as a result of the pandemic. D uring the lockdown I was involved in two pieces of online theatre my first experience with O nline theatre was with a theatre company called: E thereal Theatre, which is run by Mark Zayat and Dana Hudson. D uring the early days of the first lockdown they had an online monologue slam series which took place over a few weeks, each week they had a different cast of actors who would perform either one or two contrasting monologues. This was a really fun experience, especially as taking part in the monologue slam took my mind of being in lockdown and the pandemic in general. Through out the monologue slam series a variety of monologues were perf

MY THOUGHTS ON ACTORS WRITING

MY THOUGHTS ON ACTORS WRITING ( Photo by   Patrick Fore on   Unsplash ) Welcome back to my blog, in this instalment I talk about my thoughts on Actors writing. From the get-go I think it is important to make my position crystal clear, and my position is that I am a supporter of Actors writing, I am a supporter of Actors creating their own work. In fact this kind of ethos was ingrained in me at me at Drama school.   In Drama school I did a number of modules that fostered the idea of self created work. For example in one of the modules I had to create a character from scratch, and from that I had to write an extended monologue, based off that character and the idea being this could be the foundation to doing a one-person show. In fact after leaving   Drama school I had success in putting on a one-man show, not based on the character I created for that module. I created my show with all the tools I gained from the entirety of my course. (a YouTube link to my one-man show is below) I mad
