Luck Of The Draw
Luck Of The Draw
Luck Of The Draw was the first project I directed (I will leave a YouTube link below). While I was studying Media Arts for my undergraduate degree. We were given an assignment, out of three pieces of music choose one and create a visual narrative around it, I picked Sequentia: 6. Lacrimosa (a classical piece, this may not ring a bell, but when you hear the song you will recognise it instantly) I picked this song because it sounded dramatic, and this excited me.
Going into this assignment I was incredibly nervous because this was the first time I was making a film, and I knew I was responsible for everything! Coming up with the story, getting equipment, finding actors, finding a location, the cinematography, and finally editing the piece. Even though I was nervous about the whole thing, being pushed in at the deep end of the pool has helped me grow tremendously as a director.
As I mentioned earlier Luck Of The Draw was the first time I was a director and cinematographer, it is not perfect, however at the time I put my all into it. This project taught me that I have potential to be a director, but as a cinematographer I need to work on this. Luck Of The Draw is a story about karma, the story shows how the universe has a funny way of working.
(At the end of the short you can see a scratch card, on the day of the shoot I intended to buy one to use as a prop, however we found one on the ground and used that instead.)
