Are smartphones a distraction for school children?
There are many who argue that smartphones are a distraction for school children and I have to say I whole heartedly agree, there are many including Britain's strictest Headmistress 'Katharine Birbalsingh' who argue that children should not have access to smartphones due to the problems they cause, online bullying, distractions in class, and a disruption to learning. Furthermore, smartphones are stealing key social skills that young people need - to prosper in society,
Some say "Phones are not so bad." Phones are pretty handy, being able to call and text friends and loved ones in a quick, and efficient way is a marvel of modern technology. However, smartphone's are so problematic for young people because they are carrying around a multimedia tool, in their pockets, which can easily overwhelm a young, developing mind.
Smartphones enable users to download apps which, enhance the capabilities of the device. School children are mostly using apps such as YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Apps on smartphones are incredibly addictive, this is not a fluke, major apps such as TikTok have spent hundreds of thousands of hours developing the addictiveness of their app, young minds are being bombarded with blue light, and repeated short sharp bursts of dopamine. School children can easily spend countless hours mindlessly consuming senseless content on these apps, instead of studying, reading, and doing homework.
I encourage parents to purchase basic phones for their children - why? I strongly believe it is important for a parent to get in contact with their children and this can be achieved without the use of a smartphone.

Smartphones are incredibly addictive, and they are nothing more than a distraction for our children. As a society, if we truly wanted the best for our children, we would forego smartphones and give our children basic phones instead. Smartphones are a distraction for our school children and should be avoided at all costs/
